Group stage: 12 groups of 4
The 48 qualifying teams are drawn into 12 groups labelled A through L. Each team plays every other team in its group once, for a total of 6 matches per group and 72 group-stage matches overall. Group play runs from June 11 to June 27, 2026.
Advancement: top 2 + 8 best 3rd
The top two teams from each of the 12 groups qualify automatically — 24 teams. They're joined by the eight best third-placed teams across the tournament, ranked by group-stage points, goal difference and goals scored. That gives 32 teams for the knockout stage.
